Mark Zengerle is now tied for the BCHL league lead in scoring w/ 29-61-90. It should be noted that 1st Star has played in six less league games than the other co-leader.
Mark lived up to 1st Star form last night, notching an assist on all three of Salmon Arms goals in a 3-2 victory. He continues to help the Silverbacks as they finish up the regular season.
Over on the Westside Warriors, Justin Schutlz is starting to really heat up. Much like his future Wisconsin teammate, he has had several 1st Star preformances in the past few weeks. This includes, a big goal against Salmon Arm a few weeks back and the next game out two assists in another win. I want to say Schultz has a five or six game point streak going. He is second in blue line scoring, though has played in 9 game less than the leader. He has an impressive 1.1 pts/game.
Not to be left off the BCHL list is Derek Lee. He was named 1st Star back at the end of January in a win for the Victoria Grizzles. He has been producing regularly as of late, also finishing the season strong.
Over in the USHL, things have been quite lately. New Wisconsin recruit Brett Bennett played in both games for Indiana this weekend. He backstopped the Ice to two wins. I'm willing to have an open mind about this kid. Regardless of what his issues might have been at BU, he's a year removed from that, and is willing to come in and be a part of the Cardinal and White next season. Let's all have an open mind.
60 already covered the international action for our US NTDP recruits.
Over in the HS ranks, I haven't been keeping track of Tyler Lapic (MN) or Cody Strang and Matt Paape (WI) much. I know the seeding comes out today for the regionals and the quest now begins for a spot in the State Tournament the first weekend in March. Hopefully Cody and Matt make it, and we can get a good scouting report for the blog.
Haven't heard anything about Jordan Schmaltz since his "controversal" verbal over the summer. He is currently playing for the Chicago Mission and is 3-10-13 in 25 games.
