USA finishes a disappointing 5th in WJC

It took an overtime goal by James vanRiemsdyk, (and an absolutely sick one at that!) to fend off Czechoslovakia for a disappointing 5th place finish. Coming into the tournament, the United States had hopes of gold even though Canada was favored in their own country. At the absolute worst, the United States was the third best team talent wise going into the tournament, and even that might be under-estimating them. So to say the least, It's not only disappointing, but also embarrassing that it took overtime just to salvage 5th place.

Wisconsin defenseman Ryan McDonagh assisted on the overtime goal by vanRiemsdyk and finished the tournament with 3 assists. He along with Canadian defenseman Cody Goloubef will rejoin the Badgers when they head to Alaska this weekend.

Here is the video of James vanRiemsdyk's highlight reel overtime goal assisted by Ryan McDonagh.
