Earlier today I posted about injuries and that Smith was likely out w/ a wrist injury. Andy Baggot confirmed that; Smith has a broken wrist and is out indefinately.
Baggot also talks in a separate post about Smith's abilities on the PP, where he works rather well w/ All-American candidate Jamie McBain. So who is going to attempt to fill Brendan's shoes on the 1st PP unit? Jake Gardiner appears to be the man for the job.
This is two years in a row that Smith has gone on the DL (if you will) right after the WJC. Last year following a sweep by CC, Smith sat out the rest of the season w/ a back injury only to return for the Regional final as a forward against North Dakota.
Funny, last season after Christmas the Badgers went 1-2-1 in the four games w/ out the services of WJC caliber players, and they did so again this season. Let's hope like last season the team goes on a nice run, but instead of crapping out at the end finishes strong w/ some home ice for the WCHA playoffs.
