Thurber & Wiercioch Hoist Clark Cup

Picture from www.ushl.com

Matt Thurber, Patrick Wiercioch and their Omaha Lancer teammates are the kings of the USHL winning the 2008 Clark Cup. Omaha defeated the Waterloo Blackhawks in the deciding Game 5 in OT, Patrick Wiercioch had a goal and two assists in the victory, including an assist on the OT winner which was also assisted by Matt Thurber. Waterloo had a 2-1 lead in the series, but couldn't put things away at home on friday night, before falling in OT last night. The Waterloo Blackhawks featured recruits Brock Montpetit and Craig Smith.

Here are the box scores for the Clark Cup Finals: 5/4, 5/5, 5/7, 5/9 & 5/10.

Badger Recruit Stats in the Finals:

Forwards:

Matt Thurber 1 Assist, +1, 10 SOG, 6 PIM
Brock Montpetit -3, 3 SOG, 4 PIM
Craig Smith -4, 9 SOG, 4 PIM

Defenseman:

Patrick Wiercioch 1 Goal, 2 Assists, +5, 4 SOG, 12 PIM

I have to give Patrick Wiercioch the Badger Recruit Finals MVP based on his stellar game in Game 5 and his impressive +5 rating for the Finals.

As the week progresses, I'm going to do several USHL wrap ups, including regular season summary for each of our recruits, and a summary of the 2008 Clark Cup Playoffs for our future Badgers.
