"Things we already knew" and other items
- We already know that CAN defeated SWE 7-0 and USA lost to FIN 2-3 in the opening games of the Hockey Canada Cup. (USA also defeated SWE 7-0 and CAN defeated FIN 10-2 on the next day.) But I'm including this Canadian Press article because it has a some quotes from Jessie Vetter that I don't think I had previously seen or posted.
"We definitely had our chances and they buried theirs," said American netminder Jessie Vetter, who had 20 stops.
"There was a couple flukey ones and then they took advantage of a power play. I think we will be able to come back strong the next time we play them.
"They're a great team and they're improving every time. It will give us a little heads up that you cannot look past a team."
- In other USNTDP news, the program has hired 3 new staff members.
- In talking about Andrew Cogliano's response to the Dany Heatley trade rumors, Tom Gilbert tells us that hockey "is still a business".
- The LA Kings training camp starts Sept 13, and of course 2 Badger blueliners are on the TC roster. Here's hoping both Davis Drewiske and Joe Piskula have good camps.
- This comes as a surprise. While stopping by the Gwinnett Gladiators website looking for Andy Brandt, I was surprised on 2 counts -- Andy Brandt is currently not listed on the roster (did nubeetle already tell me this?) , and former Badger Matt Auffrey is listed. Auffrey played last season with 3 other ECHL teams -- the Augusta Lynx (which ceased operation partway through the season), the Florida Everblades, and the Dayton Bombers.
