09/10 Men's Previews: #9 Michael Davies

Vitals:

Position: Forward
Year in School: Senior
Shoots Right
Height: 5-8
Weight: 175
Hometown: St. Louis, MO
Major: Business
Previous Team: Lincoln (USHL) in 05/06

NHL Considerations: Michael has offensive upside still, someone will sign him to the a minor league contract after the season.

08/09 Stats: 34 games, 10-13-23, -1, 20 PIM
07/08 Stats: 39 games, 13-11-24, +8, 40 PIM

09/10 Role: 1st or 2nd line, PP

08/09 Recap: Michael started off the season well enough, but soon found himself in Eaves’ doghouse (again) this time for 6 games. Brutal punishment for someone who, coming into the season, was considered one of the top scoring options on the team. There was one positive, his benching gave Tom Gorowsky a chance to play and his offense was an important part of the team after Eaves finally gave him a chance. Anyway, back to Michael Davies, he returned to the lineup during the Showcase and never sat again. Overall, I think his season was kinda disappointing, I know I expected a lot more offense out of him.

Biggest Strength: He is one of the best scoring options on the team, but needs to be more consistent. No time for the doghouse this season.

Biggest Weakness: His defense has improved, he even hits people now! He still has a lot of room to grow there though. I’ve also noticed a tendency for Michael to have chances on the backdoor from a rebound only to push it high or wide. I’ve come to refer to this event as “pulling a Davies.” He buries these chances this season, he could score 20 goals.

09/10 Thoughts: Michael joins Ben Street as players who have scored 10 or more goals in their first three seasons. Like I mentioned a few sentences ago, he could go big this season; the chances should be there. He will again likely see himself on the RW of the 1st PP unit and a lot of ice time at EV on scoring lines. His defense has come a long way since his freshman year when laziness was the norm. Like Brendan Smith, I think my prediction is conservative and am hoping he leaves that goal scoring prediction behind w/ many games left to go.

Prediction: 32 games, 12-12-24*
