Team Wisconsin U16's Win Opener 3-2

As we talked about yesterday, Team Wisconsin midget minors kicked off the U16 USA Hockey Tier 1 National tournament today.

As I speak, they just finished up an absolutely thrilling game against the Connecticut Wolves. Team Wisconsin came out on top 3-2 after Jake McCabe scored with only :45 seconds left in the game.

There was no scoring in the first period.

In the second Amery forward Tanner Tryggestad got things started for TW by notching a power play goal. Connecticut would waste no time, in fact only :19 in tying up the score at 1-1. Wisconsin would get a power play at the end of the period and take advantage. Max McCormick from Green Bay Notre Dame would give Team Wisconsin the lead with an assist to Chris Bishop (Superior) with only :23 seconds left in period.

In the third period, the Connecticut Wolves showed their resiliency by tying the game up late at 2-2 with only 4:39 left in the game. It was then time for McCabes heroics. With help from Stevens Point forward Joey Haydock, McCabe put Team Wisconsin in the lead for good.

Tomorrow Team Wisconsin takes on Thunder AAA Hockey at 10:10 AM. You can follow the game live from here, or watch the game live from here.
