According to his hometown news service, Eau Claire native, and former Wisconsin Badger Jake Dowell has been called up by the Chicago Blackhawks.
According to the report, Dowell was on the team plane tonight as it left Chicago for Vancouver where the Hawks will start a best of 7 series against the Canucks soon.
Dowell is not expected to play, he is there just in case of injury but it's an honor regardless. If a situation would happen to arise, I'm sure Dowell would be ready for anything.
Jake had a bit of a weird season in 08/09. He was sent down to Rockford early in training camp and was given the dreaded alternate captain role. The only thing worse than being an alternate captain at the AHL level is to be the captain at the AHL level. True, it says that the team sees your leadership, but they also obviously don't plan on losing you to the NHL any time soon either. Jake was even called up to the Hawks at one point this season as a possible injury replacement, but after he got to Chicago, and participated in the pre-game skate, the Hawks decided he was no longer needed, and he was sent away on a plane back to the AHL.
In 75 games for Rockford this season Dowell put up a line of 6-14-20 with 128 PIM.
