Last year Inside College Hockey (INCH) was accusing Badger fans of throwing coins on the ice at the Midwest Regional, this season they are honoring the Badger's top player from the past season by naming Jamie McBain Defenseman of the Year. Quite the year for McBain: 1st Team WCHA, WCHA POY, Hobey Finalist and 1st Team All American.
In some other (expected) news, Coach Eaves finished off the 2009 recruiting class by adding D John Ramage (as Chuck previously reported) and G Brett Bennett (knew this was coming. They will be joined by forwards Derek Lee, Craig Smith, Keegan Meuer and Tyler Barnes and 2nd round NHL pick defensemen Justin Schultz. While this class won't have the high draft picks of the previous two classes, I think its pretty damn good. Here is what Coach Eaves had to say about Ramage and Bennett:
“Brett will come in as a Badger after a super year in junior hockey,” said Eaves. “We look forward to him bringing his experience to our team. And John, with his experience with the national team development program, he has already played multiple college games and will come in and add that experience to our incoming class.”
W/ the dismissal of Tom Bardis, my math puts the roster at 29 players. 18 forwards, 9 defensemen and 2 goalies. Still a long summer to come, if that doesn't change I'll be surprised.
