Team Wisconsin took care of business again this morning with a 4-3 victory over Thunder AAA Hockey. Max McCormick from Green Bay Notre Dame was the star of the day with a goal and a helper and now has 3 points for the tournament.
Team Wisconsin started off the scoring in with the only goal in the first period. Ross Pavek from Green Bay Notre Dame got the boys from the Badger state going with help from Amery's Tanner Tryggestad and Monona Groves Trevor Okeson.
The second contained a lot more action. Alex Racino from Merrill put Team Wisconsin up 2-0 early in the second with an assist from McCormick. Thunder Hockey would retaliate and get one of their own with a little less than 8 minutes left in the second. McCormick wouldn't be satisfied and for the third time in 2 days, Team Wisconsin would score a goal with less than a minute left in a period. McCormick buried a goal with :15 seconds left in the second with assists from Monona Groves Russell Blaser and Eau Claire Memorials Jake McCabe.
Thunder Hockey wouldn't let it end like that. They pulled the game to 3-2 with a power play goal in the early stages of the third period. Not to be outdone, Wisconsin would give themselves an insurance goal that they would need when Cody Dixon from University School of Milwaukee would find the back of the net with assists from the pair of Verona studs Danny Bartkowiak and Joey Fiala. Thunder Hockey would pick up a meaningless goal with 4 minutes left in the game but Team Wisconsin would hold on for the 4-3 win.
Waukesha Catholic Memorial goaltender David Chapin had 22 saves on on 25 shots. Team Wisconsin scored 4 times on 35 shots.
Team Wisconsin is now 2-0 in pool play. With today's victory, Team Wisconsin has assured themselves a spot in the next round.
