Here are a few interesting tidbits on our potential future recruits:
-Garrett Allen, a '92 forward from Team Illinois Major's aunt is 5 time Olympic Gold Medalist in speed skating Bonnie Blair. Allen's uncle (and Bonnie's husband) David Cruikshank participated in the Olympics 3 times as a sprinter and now is a personal trainer for hockey players in the NHL, AHL, USHL, and D-1. (USA Hockey)
-Ryan Belonger, a '92 forward from the Green Bay Jr. Gamblers has participated at select 14's, 15's, and 16's. He has been on an unofficial visit to Wisconsin already, and is also considering Michigan State, UMD, Michigan Tech, Quinnipiac, and Yale.
-Ryan Dau, a forward from Hudson, Wisconsin also plays for Team Wisconsin minor, and also played a pair of games as an alternate for Team Wisconsin major. Coach Kevin Patrick has been in attendance during a Hudson game over the winter.
-David Donnellan, a '90 defenseman from Eau Claire (Memorial) will be the third player to commit to a d-1 school from his senior class at Memorial when he makes his decision. (Jefferson Dahl-Wisconsin and Seth Soley-Michigan Tech) Lists Wisconsin, Denver, and CC on his short list.
-CJ Eick, a '92 forward from the Green Bay Jr. Gamblers participated at select 16's over the summer. He is also considering Air Force and Mercyhurst. Played 1 game this season with the Green Bay Gamblers (USHL).
-Cason Hohman, a '93 tiny forward from the Compuware midget minor squad is absolutely tearing apart the Mid-West Elite League. He has almost double the amount of points of anyone else on his team. Don't be surprised to see this Texas native end up over the border chillin' with the mounties.
-Eric Johnson, a '91 defenseman from the Madison Capitals midget major team has played at select 16's, and 17's. He is an honor student at Madison Memorial, and his head coach is Gary Suter.
-Brian Kemp, a '91 defenseman from Fond du Lac also plays for Team Wisconsin majors. Coach Osiecki has seen him in person over the winter in addition to any times during the TW season.
-Nolan Kirley, a '91 defenseman from Hayward's father and current head coach Steve Kirley played hockey for the Badgers, and his uncle played for Cornell. His great uncle Fred Beell was a famed professional wrestler and is credited for inventing the "beell throw." Kirley has been drafted in the 11th round of the OHL draft (218th overall) by the Windsor Spitfires. (USA Hockey)
-Todd Koritskinsky, a '93 forward from Middleton had the 4th best 2008 select 15 festival for a forward according to Western College Hockey.
-Darren Lapic, a forward from New Prague is the brother of committed recruit Tyler Lapic. Tylers NHL stock continues to rise and Darren's overall stock is soaring just as fast. Expect the Badgers to lock up that combo sooner rather than later.
-Tyler Lundey, a '91 forward from the Madison Capitals midget major program played his sophomore season with Middleton high school, and has played the last two seasons with the Capitals. He has played with the caps for a total of 8 seasons now. He also enjoys bass fishing, paintball, and Lacrosse.
-Jake McCabe, a '93 defenseman from Eau Claire Memorial has an older brother (Andrew) who is committed to the University of Nebraska Omaha. Jake played this summer at the select 15 festival and is also a member of Team Wisconsin minor. Coach Patrick has made a trip up to watch him this winter.
-Trevor Morbeck, a '93 forward from Team Illinois minors via Jackson, Wisconsin is expected to be a high draft pick in the upcoming OHL draft. He could potentially go anywhere from late first to the 10th round. Expect him to land somewhere in the third round range due to the fact that he could still end up playing college hockey.
-Jay Routheau, a freshman forward from Green Bay United leads his team in scoring. Coach Osiecki has been in the stands to watch him play over the winter.
-Jake Suter, a 90' defenseman from...yep thats right, the Suter clan. As of last year he held a 3.3 GPA at Oregon HS and also likes deer hunting.
-Wes Wauters, a forward from Ashwaubenon has taken an unofficial visit to Wisconsin according to D-playa. He has also received interest from 2-3 other d-1 schools. Wauters put up impressive numbers with Team Wisconsin major.
-Tommy Westmark, a forward from Appleton plays with committed recruit Matt Paape. He was recently named the postcresent.com hockey athlete of the year. His nickname is "Crush." He wants to play for the Gophers....wait what? I'm taking this kid off the list after I finish this post.
-Nick Widing, a forward from Somerset, Wisconsin who plays(ed) for Hill Murray high school was recently kicked off the team along with a handful of other players. The reasons weren't leaked publicly. Widing has played at numerous select festivals and has been rumored to be seen with North Dakota coaches at his high school this winter.
