Bowling Green and college hockey as a whole can breath a big sigh of relief now that the University has come out and said they will not be cutting the hockey program. Greg Christopher, the athletic director at BG, wrote an open letter to all Bowling Green fans stating that they will still be fielding all 18 varsity sports next season.
Many concerns had been raised over the possible idea that they may actually do the unthinkable, and be the first school to shut down a program that has won a D-1 hockey championship.
I know I speak for almost all college hockey fans in saying that I never want to see a program shut down, and especially not one with the storied tradition that Bowling Green has. We're in tough times right now but hopefully schools like Bowling Green can bounce back because they make college hockey better as a whole.
