Jamie McBain, WCHA Player of The Year. That certainly has a nice ring to it now doesn't it? Today the WCHA announced it's post season awards and your favorite defenseman from Fairbult, MN has been named the leagues top player.
Obviously, McBain was also named as a first team all conference defenseman. McBain had more voting points than any defenseman in the conference. Chay Genoway was a close second, and no one was even close behind those two. (Voting for annual post-season awards in the WCHA is done by conference-member coaches, players, sports information directors and media)
Not only is McBain leading the Badgers in points this season, he is trying to become only the fifth Badger defenseman in school history to finish the season as the teams top point getter. McBain led all defenseman in WCHA scoring with 28 points in 28 league games this season.
Wisconsin freshman defenseman Jake Gardiner was also honored by the WCHA. He was named to the All-WCHA rookie team. The 6'2, 181 lb defenseman from Minnetonka, MN has played a big role in the Badgers success this season. His 21 points are good enough for 9th on the team and tied for second among Badger defensemen.
Jamie, Jake and the Badgers are fighting for their playoff lives starting tomorrow in St. Paul, Minnesota at the WCHA Final Five vs Denver at 2:07 CST. The game will be broadcast live by FSN.
