Former Onalaska Goalie to walk on

Thanks to Dplaya for the heads up; it appears that Onalaska native Mitch Thompson has accepted Coach Eaves' offer to walk on w/ the Badgers next season and assume the role as the 3rd stringer behind Scott Gudmandson and Brett Bennett as those two battle it out for the top job. Edit: Baggot doesn't have much to add.

I'll be honest, I don't know anything about Mitch. He played juniors last season w/ the Bozeman IceDogs of the Northern Pacific Hockey League, where he went 20-7 w/ a 2.93 GAA and 0.906 save %. He was a first team all state goalie his senior year.

He plans to redshirt this season and compete for ice time in the future.

His coach at Bozeman had this to say, “The only thing an athlete ever asks for is an opportunity,” Stone said. “(Wisconsin) knocked on his door and he opened it up, and now it’s up to Mitch to do something with it.”

Mitch Thompson welcome to the Badger Men's Hockey team!
