Monday Morning Link Central

First things first, I wanted to give you guys updates on the WAHA Tier 1 State Tournament that took place over the weekend at Cap Ice in Middleton. My preview of the tournament can be found here.

Like I thought would happen, Team Wisconsin got the better of the Capitols in the U16 tournament. TW won on Friday afternoon 2-0 and again on Saturday in double overtime 3-2.

Bit of a surprise in the U18 tournament with Team Wisconsin not even making the finals. My sleeper team of the tournament, the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals ended up winning it when they beat the Capitols 4-1 in the championship game. The Admirals went 3-0-1 in the tournament with the tie coming against Team Wisconsin in the opening game.

By winning the Wisconsin championship, both Team Wisconsin U16's and the Milwaukee Jr. Admirals 18's will advance to play in the Central District Championships in Fond du Lac March 19th-21. I hope to have a preview of that later in the week.

Andy Baggot has a blog update for us highlighting the draft eligible current/future Badgers. He references the Red Line Report which is a private publication put out by Kyle Woodlief.

The 2010 draft is going to be a rather boring one for Wisconsin fans. Most likely we'll have 3 players drafted thus summer. Current defenseman John Ramage (147), 2010 forward recruit Jason Clark (70), and 2011 forward recruit Brendan Woods (175) are all included in the rankings.

Baggot also notes that senior forward John Mitchell is ranked as the 8th best available college free agent.

I missed this before but the Badger womens hockey players who won silver medals at the 2010 Olympic games in Vancouver were honored at a mens basketball game vs Iowa on March 3rd.

Nicole at Cute Sports has some pictures up of the ladies as they were honored on the Kohl Center floor. It looks like Erika Lawler, Meghan Duggan, Jessie Vetter, and Hilary Knight were in attendance. Looking good ladies.

DPlaya from Hockey In Wisconsin has an update linking us to the commitments of Cedar Rapids goalie and Brookfield native Troy Grosenick heading to Union, and Fairbanks Ice Dogs and Wisconsin Rapids Native Josh Nelson going to Minnesota State.

Grosenick was looked at as a possible Badger goalie so we could stagger the entrance of our goalie recruits with one walking on in 2010 (getting a scholarship his last 3 years), and then adding Rumpel in 2011. Currently, Rumpel is the only committed goalie to replace Bennett and Gudmandson who are both juniors.
